Are garden rooms warm enough for winter?

Picture 1

A common question that is often asked by our customers is if garden rooms are warm enough for winter, especially in Northern Ireland.

The short answer is YES!

What is a garden room?

A garden room is a stand-alone building located in the garden. Proving more popular than traditional home extension/improvement methods, these pods are modern and unique.

At first glance, you may think that these garden rooms are cold, drafty, and damp – but this couldn’t be further from the truth!

Garden rooms are designed for quality and can be used all year round.  They are constructed using premium materials, complex insulation layers and finished with a blend of natural, and composite elements.

How do garden rooms stay warm in the winter?

At Garden Offices NI we have carefully constructed our pods so that they mirror the comfort of your own home. Our carefully chosen premium-quality building materials match those found in home properties, thus creating a warm, dry and comfortable environment inside.

When the colder winter months come, switch on your garden room heating and your building will be perfectly comfortable.

The key is good insulation and double glazing

Our garden rooms are fully insulated for year-round use. We use premium insulation materials throughout including walls, roof, and floor. These insulation materials are made to be both breathable and damp-free.

Double glazing helps to prevent heat loss during the colder months. PVC Doubled glazed windows and doors come as standard in all our garden office pods.  Depending on the type of pod you choose, you may can change certain elements to ensure it meets your required needs.  From double glazed windows and doors to thick wall insulation, we create a dry and healthy place to work from.

Factors to consider when heating a garden room

  • Size

Naturally, a smaller garden room will not require as much heating as a large one. A larger room will take longer and more energy to heat.  With that in mind our team at Garden Offices NI will be happy to give you the correct advice about heating spending on which garden pod you select.

  • Summer

Our garden buildings are designed for all-year-round. Whilst insulation helps keep you warm by keeping the cold out in winter, it also helps keep the warm air out in summer. If we are lucky enough to get really hot weather during summer you may need to use a free-standing fan or air conditioning unit.

  • Natural Light

The amount and quality of natural light will also play a part in the heating of a garden office. Depending on whether the garden room is located on the south, east, and west elevations will mean you will have good levels of natural light all day.

  • Usage

Think about what level of heating you will need. Exercising in a garden gym is very different from sitting still at a desk all day. Will you use your garden office regularly or will it be more ad hoc? Being able to remotely control your heating will be very convenient for ad hoc use.  Or perhaps a simple timer would suffice heat your garden room before you use it.

Now that you know our buildings can be used all year round, even in the harshest weather conditions, get in touch and we can start planning the perfect garden room for you.
